Where life’s currents take you…

Dana Raynott just traveled 3,600 miles to reunite with the brother who changed his name and fled to Alaska nineteen years ago. It’s impossible not to be moved by this wild, breathtaking state, even if Dana’s no closer to finding the answers she came here for.

Her brother’s best friend, Anchorage engineer Sam MacKettrick, might be able to help her. He’s strong and kind—a six-foot, irresistible blend of diverse cultures. He’s also haunted by a tragic family history with a startling connection to Dana’s past…

Sam transferred a load of clothes from the washer to the dryer. The house was oddly silent without Chris or Kimmik rummaging around. It didn’t usually bother Sam to be alone, but for some reason, today was different. It was after five. Wonder where Dana had gotten to? Hopefully she wasn’t lost or anything.

He frowned. Dana wasn’t helpless. In fact, two days ago, she’d threatened to shoot him. It was highly unlikely she’d come to any harm on a nice day downtown, surrounded by people. And yet here he was, worrying about her. Maybe Chris was right—Sam hadn’t been out with a woman for too long. He needed to get a grip.

He was pulling the warm clothes from the dryer when he heard the garage door opening. He carried the basket upstairs, reaching the living room just as Dana bounced into the kitchen. Her bright smile assured him his worries were groundless.

“Hi. How was your meeting?” She reached into the basket and started folding a towel as if folding clothes together was something they did every day.

“Fine. How was your day?” He pulled a pair of jeans from the basket.

“Great. You were right. I loved the coastal trail and the hot dog was excellent.” She set down the towel and reached for what had once been a white T-shirt but was now faintly gray. “You really shouldn’t wash darks and lights together.”

Sam shrugged. “Probably not, but I just want to get it done. I hate laundry.”

“Really?” She smoothed the tee and folded it into a neat square. “I like folding laundry.” She held up the shirt and sniffed. “I may be mildly addicted to the smell of dryer sheets.”

Sam couldn’t help a little smile. Dana chattered on about the wildlife and scenery she’d seen during her hike as they worked and before he knew it, the entire load lay neatly stacked in the basket. He had to admit, folding laundry wasn’t nearly as boring with good company.

“Thanks. So, how about dinner at Moose’s Tooth?”

“Moose’s Tooth? What’s that?”

“A mountain.” He grinned. “More importantly, a pizza brewpub named after the mountain.”

“Sounds great.”

Snippet #1

Mitch knew it was just a coincidence he’d run into Min. She was one of a handful of people he’d run into today. Moose had jogged past him at the park and invited him to dinner tomorrow night. He’d stopped to get gas and Dave the local policeman was at the other pump and when he’d gone into the diner half the town had been there. And he may have heard Mins name mentioned in whispers more than once. Patty had been holding court with her gaggle of minions. Running into the beautiful woman seated beside him improving the look of his truck exponentially was not destiny, even if it felt like it.

All she’d bought was a small block of cheese. Clearly, she was planning to do something with it.

“What’s the cheese for?’

“Meatballs and spaghetti.” His stomach, the betraying bastard groaned. “I gather you like meatballs.”

“I do. They’re a classic.”

“I’m going to have extra. I’ll drop some over.”

“You don’t need to do that.” His stomach rolled again.

“To say thanks for the bike, and the lift home.” Large raindrops were pelting the windshield now. “I’m pretty happy not to be walking in this.”

He looked over at her. She was looking at him with those baby blues so he couldn’t resist. “Okay, but how about you eat it with me? It’s kind of sad for us each to be eating alone.”

“Okay. I’ll just come down the hall when I’m done.” The town wasn’t big so he pulled the truck up outside the building minutes later. He stopped under the portico so she could exit without getting wet.

He watched her go, her perfect pear-shaped butt heading in the door and up the stairs. He knew he shouldn’t be looking at that butt or wanting that woman but knowing didn’t stop it from being so.

I’LL BE SEEING YOU

by A.P. Hallmark

Genre: Contemporary Romance

She thought he was the love of her life, but Joy’s world is broken when she discovers she has been betrayed not only by the man she loves, but her life-long friends as well. Taking the time to heal and mend her heart, with great effort, Joy slowly begins to forgive as well.

Unfortunately, the handsome doctor’s wicked and devious ex-fiancé, Emma Ford, who was the catalyst of the destruction of Joy and Matthew’s relationship, refuses to go away. What Emma doesn’t know is that her scheming and conniving only solidifies the two lovers’ bond.

Dr. Matthew Davis has the knowledge to make Joy Johnson see for the first time in fourteen years, but her refusal to go under the knife again prevents this from happening.

Will Joy allow her Doctor to perform this miracle, or will Emma get to her first?

The first time I walked into the café and saw her sitting there, she was reading in Braille. Her delicate fingers quickly skimmed over the pages; she’s a fast reader. At times, she would come to a humorous part of the story and grin. Once, she laughed. It was a charming giggle and now having heard it, I want to hear it again. So, what started out as a daily need for a double espresso macchiato was soon replaced by my desire to see her. Sitting across the room, pretending to read a newspaper, or file notes when I have them, I watch her. She recognizes her guide dog periodically, or stops to feel the rays of sun shining on her face that beam through the window. My favorite is when she listens in on someone’s conversation.

What really surprised me was my reaction when a longhaired college student-type approached her one morning. Protectively, I tensed up, but her dog immediately became alert and growled at the intruder. It made me chuckle when it scared the guy so bad that he left in a hurry. I got a kick out of the smirk she had on her face as she rewarded her dog with some love.

Today, however, she’s facing the window and looking up toward the sun, smiling. Running my hands through my hair, I force my eyes away from her.

Today’s the day, I repeat to myself. Today I’m going to speak to her.

Opening the door, I glance over at her and her head slowly turns in my direction. She also takes a slow, deep inhaling breath.

“Hello, Dr. Davis, the usual?” Myra asks, causing me to jump at the sudden sound of her voice.

“Good morning, Myra. Yes, please, the usual,” I reply looking behind me, afraid she’ll leave before I get the nerve to say something to her.

This is it, Davis, time to man up.

Review: Clean Break by Abby Vegas

Title: Clean Break
Author: Abby Vegas
Genre: Chick Lit

I enjoyed following Lane Haviland’s adventures – or is it misadventures – after she moves to Brooklyn thinking she’s sharing a nice apartment with a balcony only to find out she’s been scammed.  So after a quick visit to the police precinct to pour out her sob story and some unenthusiastic help from a chain smoking apartment manager, she ends up in a 6×9 basement room with a Manny Pacquiao poster that thankfully doesn’t hide a blood stain.   With new digs nailed down, she just needs a new job and she finds one as a personal assistant to a neurotic Manhattan housewife.

Lane’s got some issues with her past and though I wish this was explored more, it’s her personality that shines through for me in the book and the way she deals with every obstacle thrown her way.  When the love interest reveals himself, it comes in the form of a mysterious Russian handyman named Viktor who shows his heart underneath all that nasty scar and tattoos.  But there’s trouble brewing on the horizon and short of revealing too much  about what happens next, it kept my attention all the way through the end.  One thing I did wish was for the relationship between Lane and Viktor to be explored a bit more towards the end.

Overall, it’s a strong debut novel, and I can’t wait to read more of her work.

Excerpt Reveal: Something To Believe In by Ella Fox

Prologue

Rock bottom was an alley in New York City where I, a strung-out junkie asshole, pissed myself and twitched like a bitch as I lost control of my body. It seemed fitting considering how I’d lost control of everything else. My path had always been leading me to a busted piece of concrete beside a filthy dumpster of rank smelling garbage.

For me, being a junkie was all about one thing—the fucking sound that defined my life. It was a return to home, but getting there was a raging bitch with sharp claws and razor-like teeth. It hurt like a motherfucker and broke what was left of my spirit piece by miserable piece, but I did it anyway. Pay to fucking play, I thought. Honestly, back then I’d have shot up battery acid if it meant I’d have five goddamn seconds of peace.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

I could feel my heartbeat of course, but when I was high, I could hear it, too, thump-thump-thumping in my ears. It was a steady series of bass notes that reminded me of better times. Of home. Of safety and laughter. Later my home became the stuff of nightmares, a prison of terror and mind-fucking cruelty that could never, ever be forgotten. That part of my life I was able to tap into without drugs, since it lived and breathed inside of me every minute of every day—until I started shooting up. Once that shit hit my veins I’d cruise to numb before floating off. It fucking sucked, especially the aftermath, but those few seconds of nothing were like an oasis in the desert of my life. It was killing me, but I didn’t care. Of course, I’d been banking on my lifetime not being very long at all.

Which is why I wasn’t even a little upset as I twitched on the sidewalk and sensed death hovering over me.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

I hadn’t just raced toward my own demise; I’d also been busy inviting it in. Hell, I’d all but sent out engraved invitations and by my estimation, death had been passing me over for far too long.

As I twitched on the pavement, ready to have it all be over, I felt something around me shift.

I knew she was there because I’d smelled her Loves Baby Soft perfume. When she spoke, she was right next to me, close enough for me to feel her hand when it covered mine. I also felt her head as it set down on my chest, just over my heart.

“I love this sound,” she murmured.

For a moment, her sweet voice warmed the coldest place inside of me. My eyes were at half-mast as I tried and failed to let her know I remembered how much she loved the sound of a beating heart. It wasn’t something I could ever forget.

“Dad always said the rhythm of the heart was musical.”

My heart, which I imagined was like a sandbox made of broken and worn down glass, cracked in my chest. I wanted to respond, but words were too difficult to form. My tongue wouldn’t cooperate.

“I know what you’re doing, and you have to stop,” she whispered. “This isn’t okay. It’s almost too late.”

God, I hoped so.

Ba…dum.

Ba…dum.

Ba…dum.

“It doesn’t sound good.”

She was right. The sound was slow and unsteady. I heard the concern in her voice, but couldn’t find it in me to care about the state I was in.

She expelled a heavy sigh.

“What’s coming is going to hurt,” she warned.

I dealt in hurt the way some people dealt cards, so threatening pain was laughable. I was on a first name basis with it, which meant it didn’t scare me in the least. It had been years since I’d felt anything consistently other than agony. I tried to fake it sometimes, tried to pretend I was experiencing happiness—but when I was alone, all of the subterfuge disappeared. I wasn’t happy and I didn’t see how I ever could be.

Not with what I’d seen.

Not after what I’d lost.

Ba.

Dum.

Ba.

Dum.

Ba.

Dum.

The rhythm of the beat was gone. In its absence was a series of discordant thumps without rhyme or reason.

Suddenly, light surrounded me. I was relieved because it surely meant my hell was almost over. I wasn’t even a little bit sad. The light brought no warm feeling with it, and I thought I heard terse sounding voices, but I didn’t let it upset me. Everyone knew when you saw the light, you were meant to go toward it.

Finally, I thought, I was going home.

“It doesn’t work this way,” she told me. “Doing this—you don’t get to go where you want to go. It’s not your time.”

I wanted to answer, but I couldn’t open my mouth. Why wasn’t it ever my time? Why couldn’t I make the choice?

“Nothing can change what happened,” she said firmly. “Stop trying to check out of life, Tyson.”

My mind was screaming in agony and I wanted to tell her she didn’t know what it was like to have gone through what I did. She didn’t know how it felt to be so horribly alone.

“I’m always with you,” she assured me. “We all are. Stop chasing death and start living—if not for yourself, then for me. For us.”

I think I whimpered then, like a small boy hiding from monsters beneath his bed.

“Help is here,” she announced.

I felt her lips against my cheek, and it made me want to cry. I didn’t want help—I needed it all to be over. It felt like the end was close—I couldn’t hear my heartbeat anymore.

“You’ll never see me again if you don’t fight,” she told me. “Stop trying to kill yourself and realize that life is a gift.”

If I’d been able to, I would have cursed. It sure as hell didn’t feel like a gift to me.

“Because you’re letting the pain win,” she said sadly. “This is your last chance. Take it.”

I wondered how she knew that, but then I lost the ability to form coherent thoughts since my body felt like it was on fire. Pain slashed through my veins like razorblades being chased by molten lava, and no area of my body was immune. Even my eyelids felt dry and scorched. I wanted to scream my lungs out, to beg for it to end, but I couldn’t move. The Loves Baby Soft smell of her faded away, replaced by an acrid stench that burned my nostrils.

I thought I was in hell. Regardless of whether I could go home or not, I didn’t think I had the wherewithal to withstand the amount of pain ricocheting through my body like a thousand bullets. My ribs and chest hurt so badly, I wished I could just stop feeling. I’d foolishly believed my utter lack of care or concern about my life meant death would be easy.

It wasn’t.

Death, I found, was brutal business.

The torture seemed to last an eternity and through it all, I was unable to communicate. My eyes stayed closed, and my mouth wouldn’t form words. I couldn’t even lift a hand. If I’d been able to, I would’ve shoved whoever was touching me far, far away. Being fried from the inside out was hell on earth and I wondered why the fuck it wasn’t stopping.

How the hell could she have called what was happening to me help?

Right then the only thing I knew for sure was that if being helped hurt that much, I preferred to go without the aid.

“Twenty questions,” Ashe said softly as Riley snuggled against him, both of them facing the window. More than twenty-four hours since they both stumbled into her apartment after a beautiful night out on the town, it was drizzling.  Water trails made their way down the window panes, casting shadows across their bodies lying on the bed.

Riley didn’t have to glance at the clock to know that dawn was approaching. They’d fallen asleep after the third time making love–the third time of crying out his name as she came, her voice growing hoarser with each gasp, each moan, each breath that left her lips. Her body was spent, though her spirits soared every time he touched her, kissed her, and pulled her towards him. She loved the way he looked at her when he made love to her, the way he buried his face in her hair, his fingers interlaced with hers that told Riley he was really there, and he was really seeing her.

He was baring her.

“Can we just start with five?” Riley asked. “I’m usually the one who asks the questions.”

“Why are you afraid of being asked similar questions you had no problems asking me?”

“I just prefer to ask them.”

“Don’t you think that’s unfair?” His voice grew lower, teasing.

“Yes, it is.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Because I’ve made my mistakes, and I don’t want to be judged because of them.”

“Do you believe falling in love is a mistake?” he asked.

“Only when there’s no guarantee that it’ll last forever.”

“Nothing last forever, Riley. But would you have wanted the last…relationship to last forever?”

She sighed. “You ask hard questions, Ashe.”

“Please answer the question, Riley. Would you prefer thatrelationship to last forever? Gareth?”

“In hindsight, no,” she replied. “He would have betrayed me anyway. If not in L.A., then right here in New York. Or anywhere for that matter.”

“You’re uncomfortable,” Ashe said. “Would you want me to stop asking questions?”

Riley turned to face him, marveling at the color of his eyes. So blue, darkening whenever he frowned. She shook her head. “It’s only fair that you get to ask the questions.”

“Even if it makes you uncomfortable?”

“Maybe it’s time for me to stop feeling too comfortable,” Riley replied as she turned to lay on her back. Ashe still had his arm around her, his other hand supporting his head. “I’ve been hiding from the truth for so long. If not drugs, then I did it by working too much. And I still do.”

“What are you afraid of?”

“The truth–the awful, ugly truth that people hide behind their lies, their smiles,” she replied. “So sometimes I don’t even try asking the questions that need to be asked. I’m afraid that I’d find out the truth and it’ll hurt. And I’m afraid of being alone.”

“But you’re not alone. So many people love you.”

“Then why do I feel lonely?”

“Are you feeling lonely now?” Ashe asked, frowning.

Riley shook her head, forcing a smile before sighing. This was exactly what she feared. The truth. But she might as well say it for in the morning, he’d be gone, and he’d probably forget all about her.

“No, right now I’m fine. But when you go–and you will go–then I will feel lonely. But I’ll be okay,” she said, looking up at him, serious now. “Any more questions?”

Ashe frowned. He was studying her face as if he was taking in every curve of her cheek, every line that would have told him she really laughed more than she cried. She was a barista after all. And baristas needed to be happy.

“Ask me if I ever feel lonely,” Ashe whispered. “Go on.”

“Do you ever feel lonely?”

“Sometimes,” he replied. “And I never felt as lonely as I did when I first met you in that elevator. Two people standing in a box, yet so distant. So alone, and so apart from each other. You on your way to something that would connect you with your past–”

“I had changed my mind then.”

“–and me walking away from people who wanted me only according to what I could do for them,” he said, smiling drily.

Riley turned to look at him. Before this, they’d lain on the bed on their sides, still facing the window with her back to him. But she needed to see him now, to see his face, his eyes.

“Is that why you started talking to me?” Riley asked. “To make a connection to something else? Something more real?”

“Someone, Riley. Not something. And you’re more than real. You’re the real thing,” Ashe said, kissing her forehead. “You made me smile my first real smile that day.”

“Well, I can be comedy relief,” she said softly though Riley didn’t laugh. There was something in his words that tugged at her.

“Well, there’s that,” Ashe chuckled, rolling onto his back as Riley turned to face him, half on her side and half leaning against him. His fingers played with her hair, pushing a lock away from her face or twirling it around his long fingers. “You’re a very beautiful woman, Riley. Never forget that.”

Blog Tour: When I Lied by Michelle Kemper Brownlow

When I Lied - COVER

When Kate created her sexy online persona, “Lexi,” she never expected the lies to spin so far out of control. But now one of the biggest rock stars in the world, the brilliant but damaged Oliver Walt, is in love with her, and revealing the truth means not only breaking her own heart but sending the musician into a tailspin from which he might never recover.

Lexi is just the sort of girl a dark and brooding rockstar like Oliver Walt would fall for.  Beautiful. Wild. Fun. The only problem?

LEXI IS A LIE

Bookish Kate Green knew she needed to brush up on her social skills before her first year of college, so she created an online persona to chat and flirt. And who better to practice on than talented and tormented rock frontman Oliver Walt? After all, the lead singer of her favorite band would hardly notice one more adoring fan. Except…he does. And with a single private message, Kate’s world changes forever.

Then Oliver wants to meet in person. Kate knows she has to come clean, but things are never that easy, so instead she enlists the aid of her beautiful and calculating study partner…which turns out just the way you might expect. Now, with Gretchen refusing to stop being Lexi, the lies grow bigger by the hour—and so do the stakes. Kate’s heart and Oliver’s life.

“Oliver, I don’t know if it’s my place to say anything…” I stammered a little as I tried to find the right words.

“It’s okay, Kate. You can say anything to me. What is it? What’s bothering you?” He tilted his head like he always did. It melted me each time he did it.

“Oliver, just know that you have blessed my heart and my soul with who you are and the words you bring to life. Be careful not to cut your time short inspiring the world with your genius, too.” I didn’t know what else to say and worried I’d said too much. Tears pricked behind my eyes, still being held back from earlier in the evening.

“Kate! Why are you crying?” Oliver’s other hand lifted to my other cheek and he held my face close to his.

“Oliver, there’s something I have to tell you.” Tears streamed from the corners of my eyes. The time had come. It needed to be done. It would break him but hopefully he could heal knowing I’d voluntarily set him free from the lie I’d created.

The limo’s horn blared and we both jumped. I sucked in a deep breath and wiped my face. Oliver’s hands gripped my bare arms.

“Come ON! Say good night already!” Gretchen’s voice had become like nails on a chalkboard and I’d have gotten great pleasure in ripping her throat wide open so I’d never have to hear it again.

“Lexi, you’re being rude. Please give us a moment.” Oliver actually rolled his eyes then turned back to me. I knew I didn’t have enough time to unleash the backstory of my lie before Gretchen would catapult herself from the limo and drag Oliver back inside.

Abort mission.

“It’s okay. I’m sorry, Oliver. I get weepy when I drink too much. It’s nothing. Go ahead. I don’t want you to have to deal with Lexi being pissed off for the rest of your evening.”

“You sure you’re okay?” He placed his hands on my bare neck and goose bumps rose across every square inch of me.

“Promise, I’m fine. Champagne makes me really intense.” I winked and turned and slid

my ID through the security lock. The door clicked and I pulled it open. I wanted him to walk inside with me and not leave until morning.

“Sweet dreams, sweet Kate.”

I know, it happened to me.

It wasn’t for the better, it was for the worst.

I am broken, no, that doesn’t sound right, I am chipped. Pieces of me have been chipped so bad that it’s impossible to claim them back.

Annabeth is a hopeless romantic who believes in soul mates. In fact, she’s been writing to hers each year on her birthday since she was 16.

Now, at 34, she’s still holding out hope of finding Mr. Right even though he’d be fighting an uphill battle to gain her trust, thanks to a traumatic experience years before that’s left her unable to commit.

When Annabeth meets a handsome literature professor named Alex on her 34th birthday, she thinks her quest may finally be at an end. Things don’t quite go as planned, so Annabeth resolves to do everything she can over the next year to find the unknown recipient of her letters. But blind dates, Meetup events and online singles sites have nothing on what fate has in store for her when a co-worker unexpectedly quits and Annabeth finds herself working in close quarters with both Alex and her long-ago ex, Nick. Fighting her attraction to one and loathing for the other, Annabeth is forced to face all of her old insecurities while keeping an eye on a scheming frienemy who may derail her hopes and dreams.

Written in the tradition of Bridget Jones’ Diary, Kim Gruenfelder’s A Total Waste of Makeup, and Melissa Pimental’s Love By The BookBeen Searching for You shows that love on the sweet side can exist for the modern girl, if only she’s willing to trust herself and search hard enough.

Nate

It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

Clean Break

A Novel by Abby Vegas

add-to-goodreads-button

Meet Lane Haviland – she’s dead broke, barely functioning as an adult, and completely alone in New York City. Her so-called “apartment” is a six-by-nine cell in a Brooklyn basement. And her new boss hasn’t ever met a personal or professional boundary she can’t bulldoze through.

Still, Lane’s determined to at least attempt to claw her way back to respectability. But she can’t seem to get her mysterious handyman, Viktor, out of her apartment – or her headspace. Maybe that’s a good thing: Viktor’s easy on the eyes, and that deep-voiced Russian accent is beyond sexy. But as he and Lane grow closer, he can no longer hide his connections with a dangerous criminal underworld – where secrets can be deadly.

“Smartly written…connects with the heart as well as the mind. A perfect amount of suspense & unpredictability with twists and turns that indulge the reader in a romantic plot, never losing the grit, humor, and sarcasm of a truly
great book!”

EXCERPT

Viktor went out on a beer run, so I tidied up my possessions.  That took all of thirty seconds.  Then I sat down on the futon.  My apartment had cooled down; I had not.  Why was I suddenly so into this guy?

Well, he’d been kind to me, for one.  And: intelligence.  Despite the language barrier, I could tell there was a light on upstairs.  He was tall. Good-looking.  And okay, the tattoos.  Tattooed guys were crazy-sexy, as long as they weren’t hipsters or members of the Aryan Brotherhood.  In that order.

You’re being foolish.  There it was, my better judgment.  I was well accustomed to ignoring it, but something about my apartment – its isolation? – was suddenly making me feel like I’d stumbled into a trap.  No one could hear me scream down here.

A serial killer would have murdered you already.  That notion came courtesy of the same part of my brain that fetishized bridges and balconies and razor-blades.  Why did it always come down to my mother versus Sylvia Plath?  I wondered if my attraction to Viktor was just another self-destructive impulse.  Not that I was feeling suicidal at the moment, but it had been laying there so long.  So patiently.

There was a knock at the door and I twitched.  Whatever was happening between me and Viktor, it was about to move past flirting.  I got up and checked my reflection in the bathroom mirror. A little flushed, a little frazzled, but I looked okay.  I looked – I could hardly believe it. I looked happy.

New Release: Until You by Heather Dahlgren

It’s Live!!

Until You

By, Heather Dahlgren

Exclusive Excerpt:

When I turn around to face him, I notice that he’s watching my every move. The way he is looking at me, with the moonlight radiating off his deep brown eyes full of lust has me squeezing my legs together. I can’t help but stare at him as he slowly walks toward me. My heart beats rapidly in my chest and my breath hitches in my throat. In this moment, although I’m not exactly sure what is going to happen, I feel a part of me come back to life.

Hunter runs his knuckles down my cheek, and I involuntarily lean into his touch, my eyes drifting closed at the intimate gesture. He lifts my chin so that I am looking into his eyes.

“Murphy, I’ve never wanted to kiss someone as badly as I want to kiss you right now,” he says, licking his lips.

I feel so desired looking at the moonlight reflecting in his heated eyes. I swallow and poke out my tongue to wet my lips. “Kiss me,” I whisper.

He leans forward and presses his lips to mine, and I melt into his arms. I wrap my arms around his neck and he licks the seam of my lips, seeking entrance. I open my mouth to him and when our tongues connect I feel a fire burn throughout my whole body. Unable to control myself I moan as he sinks his fingers into my hair. He deepens the kiss, and I can’t believe the reaction my body is having to him. It’s overwhelming, yet I want so much more. This kiss is not what I expected, it’s slow, sweet and sensual. Almost like he is trying to express himself to me silently, and I am more than happy to listen.

About the Author:

Leslie McAdam is a California girl who loves romance, Little Dude, and well-defined abs. She lives in a drafty old farmhouse on a small orange tree farm in Southern California with her husband and two small children. Leslie always encourages her kids to be themselves – even if it means letting her daughter wear leopard print from head to toe. An avid reader from a young age, she will always trade watching TV for reading a book, unless it’s Top Gear. Or football. Leslie is employed by day but spends her nights writing about the men you fantasize about. She’s unapologetically sarcastic and notoriously terrible at comma placement (that’s what editors are for!).

Always up for a laugh, Leslie tries to see humor in all things. When she’s not in the writing cave you’ll find her fangirling over Beck, camping with her family, or mixing up oil paints to depict her love of outdoors on canvas.
