“It is an interesting law of romance that a truly strong woman will choose a strong man who disagrees with her over a weak one who goes along. Strength demands intelligence, intelligence demands stimulation, and weakness is boring. It is better to find a partner you can contend with for a lifetime than one who accommodates you because he doesn’t really care. … Sixty seconds of wondering if someone is about to kiss you is more entertaining than 60 minutes of kissing. … Spill the beans, and the conversation is history. Speak in code, with wit and challenge, and the process of decryption is like foreplay.”
– Roger Ebert
Excellent quote! My husband is not the most handsome man I dated when I was single. That’s not to say he’s bad looking. He’s nice looking enough, but truthfully, there were some guys I dated who were gorgeous by comparison. Doesn’t matter. He is by far the most interesting, and in 30+ years together, I have never been bored. Irritated at times and wanting to wring his neck on occasion and sometimes enraged by him. But bored? No. His wit and intelligence have kept me on my toes, and through all the ups and downs, I’ve loved that.
I should add that he’s never been irritated or enraged with me — ever. 😉
Long time, no see, Frenz!!!!
Love that last line – and I believe you, too 😉
In the end, looks fade away but wit, intelligence, humor, etc…those things are what keeps us riveted 🙂
